Durst is known across multiple segments as a manufacturer of high quality, high performance printing machines. Maximum productivity and optimum print quality are clear USPs of Durst printing systems, and industrial production is their area of application. But what good is the best printing machine without solutions for achieving true efficiency? This is why we work together with leading software suppliers such as Caldera to develop custom tailored solutions which enable the optimisation of work processes and guarantee maximum output. Digital printing in industrial applications offers many advantages over traditional methods, however it should be noted that this comes hand in hand with greater pre-press requirements.

Digital colour management, skilled data processing and retrieval and material handling must be mastered. Not all of our customers have experience with classical printing methods, so they cannot all simply adapt knowledge from old to new in a short amount of time. This is why our customers' machine operators are intensively trained in the use of Durst printing machines by our service technicians, and their specific processes are analysed and adapted accordingly. At the same time, we are continuing development of Durst printing systems and offer additional potential for optimisation, such as variable data printing and enhanced media flexibility. With additional interfaces for refinement and final processing, we also aim to offer a high degree of production automation and the integration of our systems into existing production lines. Here, the degree of integration can even cover connection to management information and ERP systems. This makes it possible, for example, to precisely determine the production costs and profit of each order and to establish an end to end workflow from order acceptance to production to invoicing and post processing. For this type of challenge, Durst is also able to meet customers' service needs thanks to partners like PrePress digital, which offers complete system integration enabling Durst printing systems to become an elemental part of the business processes. Today, we offer more than just the best digital printing machines. We offer solutions which provide customers with clear competitive advantages extending beyond mere printing processes.

"Gradual flow print technology" with Rho 1300-series printers

Thanks to gradual flow print technology, the new Rho 1300-series printers are able to achieve top-quality print results at incredible speeds to the amazement our demo-center visitors. Especially when using Rho POP 30DM inks, the high-gloss quality prints created are unsurpassed.
A 1,300 mm-deep print carriage outfitted with 80 Durst Quadro Array M print heads which can spray 50,000 ink droplets per second from 81,920 nozzles are what make this level of performance possible.
Up until now, Durst flatbed images were constructed using a scanning mode. This means that the prints were created progressively, line-by-line. Figure 1 shows how colour was applied line-by-line from 25% to 100% during printing."Gradual flow print technology" with Rho 1300-series printers

Up until now, Durst flatbed images were constructed using a scanning mode. This means that the prints were created progressively, line-by-line. Figure 1 shows how colour was applied line-by-line from 25% to 100% during printing.

Fig. 1
Using the new gradual flow print technology, images are printed simultaneously across the entire print surface over a maximum sheet size of 2,500 x 1,250 mm instead of the line-by-line method used previously. Figure 2 shows image construction in three stages across the entire surface.

Samples printed using Durst Rho POP 30DM UV inks can achieve a high level of gloss. The ink, which is now applied across the entire height of the material, does not need to be hardened with the UV lamps immediately. Hardening can now be done after the final application of colour. This enables the droplets to trickle off, which results in a very glossy effect as shown in Figure 3.
